The Overview

The Robo-Chums Adventure began with a simple yet massive mission: transform TraCo's beloved physical toy collection into a multi-platform animated franchise. Our goal was to inject human warmth and infectious humor into metallic, robotic characters, creating a world where child-like wonder meets high-fidelity digital production.

The Creative Challenge

Traditional robotic character animation can quickly feel rigid or cold. TraCo needed these mechanical buddies to feel instantly lovable, expressive, and physically tangible. The challenge lay in pioneering a custom squash-and-stretch rig system for rigid metal surfaces, ensuring the 3D models moved with the expressive fluidity of classic 2D cartoons while preserving the realistic, tactility of collectible toys.

THE STRATEGY

HOW WE BROUGHT THE CHUMS TO LIFE

01

Character Development

We constructed detailed personality matrices for each bot, ensuring their mechanical quirks translated directly into hilarious signature gestures and expressive visual animation.

02

World Building

Our designers engineered a playground metropolis built from oversized toy elements, cardboard boxes, and neon lights to create an immersive sandbox scaled exactly to a kid’s imagination.

03

Animation Pipeline

By blending rapid 2D keyframe sketching directly over the 3D rig, we established a high-velocity production pipeline that allowed us to scale character performances beautifully across 52 episodes.
